What does teamwork smell like? At HA Seminar #5, our Honours Academy students explored this question in a fun and hands-on way. With team building as the focus, the session invited them to step beyond discussion and actually create something together, blending ideas, personalities, and values into a shared outcome.
The session was led by David, Project Officer from The Boys’ & Girls’ Clubs Association of Hong Kong Community Creativity Learning Centre, who created a relaxed and enjoyable environment for our HA students. He began by sharing how scents are closely connected to memory and emotions, helping students reflect on how fragrances can carry meaning, identity, and shared experiences. This also sparked an interesting discussion, as each group considered what kinds of scents might best represent HA.
The highlight of the seminar was the “Team Perfume” activity. Working in small groups, students were challenged to design a fragrance that captures their team spirit. The room quickly filled with energy as groups exchanged ideas, negotiated preferences, and experimented with different scent combinations. Some teams chose fresh citrus notes to reflect energy and creativity, while others went for woody or floral tones to express reliability and warmth.
Along the way, our HA leaders naturally took on different roles, from leading the concept to mixing the fragrance, making sure everyone had a part to play. It was a simple exercise, but one that brought out important lessons about communication, compromise, and trust.
The session wrapped up with a “brand launch” where each team presented their creation, sharing the story behind their perfume, its name, and what it represents. Each one was different, but all reflected a strong sense of identity and teamwork.
More than just a creative activity, the seminar showed that building a strong team takes time, balance, and support. With guidance from David and encouragement from HA, our students experienced how working together openly can lead to something genuinely meaningful, and memorable.
