HA Symposium 2022-23

(refer to the booklet and the photo album for more highlights)

Date: 8 May 2023
Time: 1:00pm-4:00pm
Venue: Fung Yiu King Hall, The Hang Seng University of Hong Kong

The second Honours Academy Symposium was held successfully on 8 May 2023. It featured ten HA students (four individual and three group presentations) presenting their research findings of their HA4001 Senior Research Project, a one-year interdisciplinary and independent study under the supervision of our faculty members.

We are honoured to have Prof Jeanne FU (Acting Vice-President, Learning and Student Experience and Head, Honours Academy) to deliver an opening remark, and Prof YV HUI (Chairman of the HA Board; Provost and Vice-President (Academic and Research)), Ms Esther LEE (Associate Head, Honours Academy; Director of Student Affairs) and Dr Eko LIAO (Instructor of the HA’s research methodology workshop, and HA4001 senior research project supervisor 21/22) to be our panel of judges for the Best Individual Presenter and the Best Group Presenters Awards.

This year, we are delighted to see the wide range of research topics and great spirit of interdisciplinary research fully embodied in all of our HA students’ senior research projects (for topic details, please refer to the table below.) From examining the impact of COVID-19 on gender equality in the aviation industry to investigating the effects of placemaking on teenagers’ interpretations of museums, and from exploring the intersection of law and technology to investigating the psychological effects of social media, these projects represent a diverse range of fields and perspectives. It is encouraging to see our students taking on important and complex issues, and their research has the potential to make a real impact on society and create new possibilities for discovery and innovation.

The Symposium offers a valuable platform to HA young scholars to present the impactful findings of their research. After a 10-minute presentation, presenting student(s) would need to answer follow-up questions raised by judges, HA4001 supervisors, academic fellows, and HA students, and most importantly receive constructive feedback and suggestions.

After careful selections, the Best Individual Presenter Award goes to Lydia Pun and the Best Group Presenters Award goes to Hermione CHUI and Katy LUK, recognising their excellent research content and professional presentations. Appreciation is also given to all HA4001 students with their efforts, intellectuality and courage devoted to the research project.

Last but not least, the HA would like to express gratitude for the substantial guidance and support offered by our HA4001 supervisors on this one-year journey with our HA students. They helped to equip HA students with research, data-analysis and presentation skills that will be useful for their postgraduate studies or future careers.

Prof YV HUI (Chairman of the HA Board; Provost and Vice President, Academic and Research, HSUHK), on behalf of the HA, presented a Certificate of Appreciation to the HA4001 Senior Research Project Supervisors.

Lydia PUN received the Best Individual Presenter from Dr Eko LIAO (Instructor of the HA’s research methodology workshop, and HA4001 senior research project supervisor 21/22).

Katy LUK and Hermione CHUI received the Best Group Presenters from Ms Esther LEE (Associate Head of Honours Academy; Director of Student Affairs).
