The Honours Academy (HA) held its highly anticipated 3rd Symposium on 29 April 2024, featuring exceptional interdisciplinary research conducted by HA students as part of the HA4001 Senior Research Project, marking the culmination of their deadicated, year-long independent study.
Thirteen Honours Academy students presented their research findings during the Symposium, captivating the audience with seven engaging presentations. These presentations included six group projects and one individual project, spanning a variety of important themes:” integration of AI in insurance, the role of sports in fostering social cohesion among migrants, critical evaluations of mental health impacts within organisational settings, economical and ethical considerations in modern relationships and workplace, environmental and social policy analysis relating to climate change and media influence, and the educational challenges and opportunities faced by ethnic minorities.
The Symposium commenced with an inspiring opening remark by Professor Simon Ho, President of HSUHK. He particularly announced the launching of the first-ever HA student journal which showcases the rigorous and impactful work of the HA students. The judging panel consisted of Dr. Tom Fong, Vice-President (Organisational Development), Dr Holly Chung, Head of HA, and Dr Cheung Pui-sze, Associate Head of HA. They played a crucial role in evaluating the “Best Presentation Award” and “Most Engaging Individual Presenter Award”.
Throughout the event, attendees were impressed by the depth of knowledge and innovative ideas presented by the HA students. The interactive Q&A sessions that followed each presentation were highlights of the Symposium. The audience, including judges, HAAcademic Follows, HA4001 Supervisors, faculty members and HA students, engaged actively with the presenters, asking thought-provoking questions and providing valuable feedback.
After careful deliberation, the judging panel awarded the “Best Presentation Award” to Sunny Lee for his exceptional and impactful presentation. In addition, Berrie Chim was honoured with the “Most Engaging Individual Presenter Award” for her outstanding communication skills and charismatic delivery.
At the end of the HA Symposium, Dr Holly Chung, Head of HA expressed her gratitude to the seven HA 4001 supervisors who provided guidance to HA students throughout the research journey.
