HA Seminar – Honours Academy Students Experience Creativity and Sustainability at LUSH

To provide hands-on industry and social insights, the first HA Seminar of AY24-25 took place on 19 October 2024, offering our HA students an immersive experience into the world of creativity and sustainability at LUSH, a British cosmetics company renowned for its environmentally-friendly products. This exclusive visit provided a unique opportunity for students to explore how ethical business practices and community engagement can drive both social and commercial value.

The day began with a warm welcome from the energetic LUSH team, who opened the store exclusively for our students, creating a private and focused atmosphere. As our HA students toured the vibrant, handmade cosmetic displays, they discovered LUSH’s passion for sustainability, from eco-friendly bath bombs to fresh skincare products.

The HA Seminar was then filled with engaging activities that brought LUSH’s values to life. First, students explored eco-friendly gift wrapping, learning how it creates job opportunities for diverse communities. Next, they delved into ethical buying, hearing how this brand responsibly sources ingredients globally, promoting fair trade and sustainable practices. Our HA students were introduced to the company’s DEI (Diversity, Equity, and Inclusion) and other charitable projects, motivating HA’s future leaders to brainstorm their own ideas for giving back, both locally and globally. In fact, our HA students were invited to team up and design products that could be sold for charity. The room was alive with heartwarming and creative juices!

The day culminated in the handmade workshop, where students crafted LUSH’s signature bath bombs, namely the festive skeleton-shaped designs in anticipation of Halloween. This hands-on experience not only allowed them to create personalised products but also deepened their understanding of sustainability, ethical business, and community engagement.
