HA’s Signature Game Brings Financial Literacy to Life for Future University Students@Summer Academy 2025
On 30 July 2025, the Honours Academy (HA) proudly took part in HSUHK’s Summer Academy, a flagship event designed to give senior secondary school students a real taste of university life. Our HA team hosted a workshop titled “Navigating Life Decisions: Financial Literacy and Personal Development as an HA Student”.
Leading the session were two passionate HA’s 5th cohort student leaders, Yan Zhuang and Faustine Yam, who fully embodied what it means to be an HA student: curious, creative, and committed to making a difference. From planning to execution, they took charge of every detail—designing the flow, setting the tone, and most importantly, creating a welcoming and inspiring space for the visiting students.
At the heart of the session was HA’s very own Life Simulation Board Game, a creative, HA student-designed tool that turns financial literacy into a hands-on, interactive adventure. As the senior secondary school students moved between life stages, namely the university, and early career ones, they made choices about budgeting, saving, spending, and investing, all while discovering how everyday decisions can shape their futures.
What made the session truly special was the energy and warmth that Yan and Faustine brought to the room. They weren’t just facilitators—they were near-peer mentors, openly sharing their own university experiences, tips, and what it really feels like to be part of the HA community. For many of the secondary students, it was their first time hearing about university life from someone just a few years ahead of them—and it made all the difference.
The board game itself is the product of years of HA student collaboration through the HA x BGCA: Pre-Teens Financial Literacy Workshop Series, which has reached dozens of young learners in the community, and was even shortlisted for the 2024 QS Reimagine Education Awards. Originally created by the inaugural HA cohort, and now carried forward by the current HA student leaders, the game is a living example of how student-led innovation at HA continues to grow and evolve.
Huge thanks to Yan and Faustine, and the entire HA community for showing what leadership, learning, and impact truly look like.
