Honours Academy (HA) Sixth Cohort Inauguration Ceremony: A Celebration of New Beginnings and Five Years of Heartfelt Leadership

On 22 October 2025 was a deeply meaningful day for the Honours Academy (HA) at The Hang Seng University of Hong Kong (HSUHK). We officially welcomed 25 future leaders as our sixth cohort. This year’s inauguration also marked the fifth anniversary of HA’s founding: a powerful reminder of how far we have come since HA began as a bold idea in 2020.

The Ceremony was hosted by two HA6 students, JK Li and Sunny Man, who served as emcees for the afternoon. Their poised and heartfelt delivery brought warmth, humour, and smooth transitions to every part of the Ceremony: a strong first showing of the leadership and spirit HA6 brings to the community.

A Message of Vision and Momentum

President Simon Ho opened the ceremony with a message that looked back on HA’s journey and looked forward to its growing impact. He highlighted the achievements of HA alumni, including graduates who are already contributing to regional and global initiatives in business, education, and youth leadership. He also celebrated student-led projects like the pre-teens financial literacy board game and the recent participation of HA students in international forums.

Calling on students to turn service into leadership and ideas into action, President Ho invited the new cohort to embrace what he called the “3Ps”: Package it, Prove it, Propel it.
These guiding principles encourage students to develop scalable solutions, backed by evidence, that can shape policy and practice beyond campus.

A Celebration of Spirit and Story

To mark HA’s fifth anniversary, we debuted our first-ever HA Anniversary Video, capturing the spirit, milestones, and magic of each cohort that came before. Watching it together was a celebration of how HA has grown into a vibrant, cross-cohort community of changemakers.

One of the most moving moments of the day came from our immediate senior cohort, HA 5th cohort, who passed on their blessings in the most HA way possible: with creativity, humour, and heart. Their “HA Prime Time News Flash” video, blending Augmented Reality (AR) and Virtual Reality (VR), was entirely scripted, performed, filmed, and edited by HA5’s Charmaine Leung, Cathy Yu, Kin-fung Lau, Samantha Lee, Carlos Leung, James Wang, Marvis Wong, Helen Zeng and Niki Zhao, supported by ITSC, Martin Lee Ka Shing Innovation Lab and Multimedia Commons, School of Communication. The result? Plenty of laughter, and even a few happy tears.

Honouring Traditions and Building Legacy

The signed HA tee ritual, now a beloved tradition, was carried out with warmth and sincerity, as HA5 placed their signatures and blessings into the hands of HA6. This simple but powerful gesture reminded us all that HA is a family that grows together, year by year.

We were also deeply grateful to be joined by many of our Academic and Professional Fellows, whose presence, mentorship, and belief in our students continue to shape the HA journey in profound ways. It was especially heartening to see so many senior students return to support HA6 and welcome our Fellows. Their presence spoke louder than words: this is what our HA community looks like. This is what legacy feels like.

Words That Inspire and Endure

In the closing moments, Council Chairman, Dr. the Honourable Moses Cheng, delivered a personal and inspiring reflection.

“Each year, this event reminds me why the Honours Academy matters. It is a community grounded in service, shaped by mentorship, and driven by a shared belief that leadership begins with purpose.”

He spoke of his own leadership journey, marking a major anniversary at the law firm where he began over 50 years ago. His message to the students: leadership is a long path shaped not by titles, but by the people we support and lift along the way.

“The Honours Academy nurtures not just bright minds, but strong hearts. It prepares leaders who serve, who listen, and who lift others as they climb.”

Looking Ahead

As HA6 mingled with Professional Fellows and peers at the close of the ceremony, the room was full of energy and possibility. Conversations sparked. Friendships formed. Seeds of mentorship planted.

To HA6, welcome to the HA family again! We are so excited for the journey ahead.
To HA5 and all who came before, thank you for lighting the way.
To everyone who believes in what we do, here’s to the next five years, and beyond.
