Lead with Purpose, Learn with Humility: Para Cheng’s EASP 2026 Debut 

Para Cheng, a proud member of the Honours Academy (HA) 4th cohort and graduating in Summer 2026, recently brought the HA spirit to an international stage by presenting a paper at the 2026 East Asian Social Policy (EASP) Annual Conference, themed “Social Policy in Asia in an Era of Multiple Disruptions”. Held on 17 and 18 July 2026 at The Hang Seng University of Hong Kong (HSUHK), the conference, co-hosted by HSUHK’s Graduate School and the East Asian Social Policy Research Network (EASP), brought together scholars and practitioners to explore how social policy in Asia can respond to interconnected challenges, from climate change to demographic shifts and technological disruption.

What makes Para’s achievement especially inspiring is the journey behind it. After completing HA4001 Senior Research Project in his final year, Para continued to sharpen his academic skills, actively sought research opportunities, and built the confidence to step into larger scholarly conversations. That determination opened a valuable door: he had the opportunity to co-author the study with Dr Lawrence Lei, Assistant Professor in the Department of Accountancy, School of Business, HSUHK.

At the conference, Para shared the paper “Managerial Overconfidence and Corporates’ Environmental, Social, and Governance Performance: Evidence from Hong Kong’s ESG Regulatory Policy”. His presentation was met with encouraging feedback from fellow scholars and practitioners, affirming the relevance of his work and the clarity of his delivery.

Para’s moment on this platform is a proud reminder of what HA students can achieve when they keep growing beyond the classroom, and lead with purpose.
