HA booth brings big energy to HSUHK New Student Welcome Day 2026
The Hang Seng University of Hong Kong (HSUHK) welcomed over 2,500 incoming first-year and senior-year students at its New Student Welcome Day on 24 August 2026, themed “承恒 — Belong and Beyond”. The campus was full of activity, but if you followed the laughter, the friendly calls of “Come try this!”, and the steady stream of new faces stopping for “just one more go”, you would almost certainly end up at the Honours Academy (HA) booth, a high-energy, student-led welcome that felt like walking straight into a supportive family.
This year marked the first time the HA booth ran in both AM and PM sessions, and the momentum carried all day. A cross-cohort crew of HA student leaders created a vibe that was equal parts welcoming, upbeat, and reassuring. They didn’t wait behind a table for students to approach. Literally, they stepped forward, invited freshmen over, and introduced HA the best way possible: senior to junior, human to human. No pressure, no hard sell; just real conversations.
Powering the team’s smooth operation was the caring leadership of JK Li@HA6. With calm coordination and a strong sense of responsibility, JK kept the booth running like a well-rehearsed relay, making sure every activity flowed, every shift was covered, and every teammate felt supported. Just as importantly, every HA student leader brought their own spark, welcoming new students warmly, explaining activities clearly, and jumping in whenever someone needed help.
It was leadership you could see in action: organised, thoughtful, and genuinely people-first.
At the centre of the booth was the HA Impact Map, an interactive activity that turned curiosity into purpose in minutes. New students were invited to choose an issue they care about, ranging from environment, technology and ethics, education, health, equality, to community, place a sticker on a country where they would like to explore that issue, and then add a matching dot in the “Bring It Home” area to represent how global exposure could become local contribution. Watching the map fill up was electric. Each sticker and dot a tiny declaration of “I care”, “I want to explore”, and “I want to make a difference.”
At the same time, our HA booth also became a hotspot for “Stop at Five”, a deceptively simple challenge to stop a hidden timer at exactly 5.00 seconds. The reactions said it all: cheers, groans, triumphant “YES!”, and immediate rematches with friends.
On a day dedicated to belonging, the HA booth delivered exactly that, loudly, warmly, and wholeheartedly, proving that impact can start with something as simple as a friendly welcome and a team that leads with heart.
