Inauguration Ceremony of the Seventh Cohort (AY2026-27)

Honours Academy Welcomes Its 7th Cohort: Leading with Purpose, Serving the Community

On 12 October 2026, the Honours Academy family gathered at HSUHK for one of our favourite moments of the year: welcoming a new cohort into the HA story. We officially inaugurated HA’s 7th Cohort, and celebrated 19 student leaders joining this community. From the first hello at registration to the student showcase at the back of the room, the vibe was unmistakably HA: warm, energetic, and full of people quietly cheering each other on.

We were proud to have Mary Alog and Adrian Lam as our Masters of Ceremony, coming from this exact latest HA cohort. Their humour felt natural, their teamwork was effortless, and their presence kept the whole ceremony flowing smoothly while still feeling personal. When they brought in our familiar HA “friends”, Noble Rabbit and Sunny Bear, it wasn’t just a cute moment. It was a very HA way of saying: our leadership is not abstract, it is built through real community journeys and real relationships.

The ceremony opened with welcoming remarks by President Joshua Mok, setting a thoughtful tone for the afternoon. Then came a tradition we treasure, because it shows what we mean when we say HA is a family. Our HA6 seniors prepared the HA7 introduction video as a gift for the newest members. It was made with time, care, and that senior-to-junior love that you can feel in the room when the lights go down.

The pinning ceremony, led by Dr Holly Chung, Head of Honours Academy, together with Dr Janice Wong and Dr Bernard Luk, Associate Heads of Honours Academy, marked the moment HA7 became official. One by one, each pin represented trust, responsibility, and a shared promise that we grow together here. We then continued another HA tradition, the passing on of the signed HA polo. Representing HA6, Prelish Gurung presented the polo to Tara and Matthew from HA7. It was simple, but powerful. A handover of blessings, memories, and the message we all need at the start of a journey: you are not walking into this alone.

We were also honoured to recognise the Fellows who make HA what it is, by standing behind our students with wisdom, challenge, and care. Professor David Tse (Acting Provost and Vice-President, Academic and Research, and HA Board Chairman) presented souvenirs to our three new Academic Fellows: Professor George Ho, Professor Li King-king, and Professor Eugene Wong. Professor Jeanne Fu (Vice President, Learning and Student Experience, and HA Founding Head) presented souvenirs to our Professional Fellows present, including Professor Poman Lo and Mr Wilfred Yiu. Dr Josiah Chan, Vice-President (Organisational Development), presents souvenirs to HA Professional Fellows Mr Raymund Chao and Ms Clara Shek. Their presence reminds our students that leadership is never built in isolation, and that guidance is one of the greatest gifts a community can offer.

The Community Engagement Footprint video brought us back to the heart of HA: we learn by doing, and we lead by serving. That spirit carried into the HA Fellow Dialogue, themed “Leading with Purpose and Empowering Youth in a Changing World”, facilitated by Professor Jeanne Fu, with HA’s Professional Fellows, Ms Clara Shek and Mr Wilfred Yiu, and Academic Fellow, Professor Daniel Mo. It was thoughtful, grounded, and energising, the kind of conversation that stays with you long after you leave the auditorium.

To close, we were honoured to receive words of encouragement from Dr the Honourable Moses Cheng, Vice-Chairman of the Board of Governors. And then came the most “HA” ending of all: group photos with laughter, familiar faces across cohorts, and a mingling session where conversations sparked naturally, mentors leaned in generously, and HA7 began building their own connections, in their own way.

To HA7, welcome home. We are proud of you already, not only for your talent, but for your heart, your presence, and the way you show up for one another. To our Fellows, seniors, colleagues, families, and friends, thank you for walking with us, and for leaving footprints with us. The HA journey continues, and we cannot wait to see what this new chapter becomes.
