“Building a Sustainable Future: What Psychology Can Offer” delivered by Dr Kevin TAM
Technology per se cannot save our planet. To build a sustainable future, we need behavioural and social change as well. With this as the point of departure, Kim-Pong Tam, an environmental psychologist interested in people’s connection with nature and their response to global environmental changes, will introduce to you insights from psychologists and other social scientists.

Biography of Dr TAM
Kim-Pong Tam is deeply concerned about the worsening condition of the planet and has always been thinking about what he can contribute as a citizen and as a social scientist. Ten years ago, he decided to switch all his research attention and effort to the study of environment and human behavior. He is currently investigating (i) how people construe their relationship with nature and the emotional and behavioral implications of such construal; (ii) the cross-national variations in phenomena regarding environmental attitude and pro-environmental behavior; (iii) the socio-political dynamics behind individuals’ appraisal of and responses to environmental problems; and (iv) the various psychological processes behind public support for climate change policies. He is currently the Editor-in-Chief of Asian Journal of Social Psychology. He is also an Associate Editor of Journal of Pacific Rim Psychology and PsyEcology, and an editorial board member of Journal of Environmental Psychology and Journal of Business Research. He is now an Associate Professor at the Division of Social Science, The Hong Kong University of Science and Technology.
