HA Seminar – Exploring the Future of Finance: Visiting the Hong Kong Exchanges and Clearing Limited (HKEX)
The Hong Kong Exchanges and Clearing Limited (HKEX) is a world-renowned financial institution that has been at the forefront of innovation in the industry. With a rich history spanning over a century, HKEX has played a significant role in shaping the global financial landscape, as a one-stop-shop for a wide range of financial products and services, including equities, fixed income, currencies, and commodities.
The HA was tremendously honoured to be invited by Mr Wilfred Yiu, one of our HA’s Professional Fellows, to visit the HKEX on 27 April 2023 where Mr Yiu is the Co-Chief Operating Officer and Head of Equities. As part of the third cohort’s HA2002: Service Leadership and Public Policy Engagement lecture, and our sixth HA seminar, a total of 26 students from our three cohorts first enjoyed an insightful talk by Mr Yiu who first provided an overview of the current state of financial markets, locally and globally. The talk continued with a critical view on the strong performance of the Hong Kong stock market. The HA students were well informed of the key to such successes: the growth of the Chinese economy, the increasing significance of technology in our daily lives, and the supportive regulatory environment in Hong Kong. Finally, our HA students were all encouraged by Mr Yiu’s visionary final remarks on the future of HKEX. All participants expressed optimism about the continued growth of the Hong Kong stock market, and the increasing number of companies from the Greater Bay Area and Southeast Asia that are choosing to list on HKEX. Our HA’s future leaders were all inspired by HKEX’s commitment to promoting sustainable finance and environmental, social, and governance (ESG) practices within the exchange, highlighting its leading role in the global transition to a sustainable economy.
The HA students were then blessed with a precious tour to the HKEX, especially its Museum of Finance, a fascinating destination that exhibits the role of finance in shaping the past, present and future of Hong Kong. Located in the Exchange Square Tower, the HKEX astonished our HA management and students with a newly-renovated modern and sleek design once we stepped into the venue. The informative and entertaining narration and escort provided by the seasoned staff member of the HKEX educated our HA students to an extent that they found this visit way more than a lecture or a seminar, but an exclusive opportunity to experience the story of Hong Kong’s financial market, and what the future may hold. Then our HA students got to explore the Museum of Finance enriched with interactive exhibits and preserved historical artifacts featuring prominent figures in the finance industry. On top of learning about the history of money and banking in Hong Kong, and the development of the stock exchange and the role of technology in modern finance, our students were exceptionally amazed by the Trading Hall preserved to look just as it did in the 1980s, stepping back in time and experiencing the excitement of trading on the floor, accompanied by the sights and sounds of the trading pits. The Museum also featured a virtual trading game that allows visitors to experience the thrill of buying and selling stocks, together with examining the factors that influence stock prices.
Overall, the visit to the HKEX was a valuable learning experience for our HA’s future leaders to learn about the importance of innovation, sustainability, and leadership in the global financial industry.

香港交易所（下稱「港交所」）乃享譽全球的金融機構，一直走在金融業尖端。憑藉超過一個世紀的豐富歷史，港交所在塑造全球金融局面發揮了舉足輕重的作用，一站式提供各種金融產品和服務，包括股票、固定收益、貨幣和商品等。
榮譽學院非常榮幸地獲得學院專業院使之一姚嘉仁先生的邀請, 於2023年4月27日一行二十六位學員，連同學院管理層到訪港交所。港交所聯席營運總監及股本證券主管姚先生首先概述了當前國內外金融市場的現狀。姚先生亦對香港股票市場的強勁表現提出了批判性觀點, 榮譽學院學員亦充分了解到港交所的成功關鍵：中國經濟的增長、科技發展以及香港所提供的完善監管機制。最後，姚先生以港交所未來的願景鼓勵學員, 學員亦對香港股票市場的持續增長﹑以及大灣區的發展表示樂觀和盼望。榮譽學院的未來領袖也理解到港交所推廣的可持續金融和環境、社會和管治（ESG）實踐方面的承諾，明白到香港在全球可持續經濟發展的領導地位。
榮譽學院學員更有幸參觀了位於香港商業重陣﹑交易廣場大樓的港交所。港交所大堂內的金融博物館展示了香港金融發展的過去、現在和將來。榮譽學院學員一踏進場館已經深深被其現代和時尚設計所吸引。整個參觀由港交所資深人員以生動有趣的解說引導, 學員亦有機會好好體驗香港金融市場的故事，以及未來可能的發展方向。學員亦有充足時間探索金融博物館，包括豐富的互動展品和歷史文物。除了解香港貨幣和銀行業的歷史和股票交易所的發展，學員尤其對保存得像二十世紀八十年代般的交易大廳和物品印象深刻。大家仿佛穿越時空，體驗在交易市場上交易的刺激。參觀港交所對榮譽學院未來領袖而言可說是寶貴的一課，學員充分了解到創新、可持續性和領導力在全球金融行業中的重要性，同時亦明白公共政策和市場營銷等領域的實際應用，進而培養自身領導能力和團隊協作能力，為未來職業生涯做好準備。
