The HA Community Service Team’s Experience Volunteering at the House of Joy and Mercy

The Honours Academy (HA) Community Service Team rallied a group of passionate HA students to make a positive impact on the lives of rescued stray animals at the House of Joy and Mercy on 21 September 2023.

A team of five HA students, together with Dr Holly Chung (Acting Head) and Ms Candy Yeung (Executive Officer), embarked on a fulfilling afternoon of service, driven by their love for animals and the desire to make a difference.

The participants rolled up their sleeves and dove into the tasks at hand. They meticulously cleaned the premises, ensuring a safe and hygienic environment for the animals. With dogged determination and dedication, they scrubbed kennels, handled dogs’ waste, and organised play areas, transforming the surroundings into a haven of comfort and care.

But the hard work did not stop there. The HA Team eagerly interacted with the rescued animals, providing them with much-needed attention, affection, and playtime. The joy on the stray dogs’ faces and the wagging of their tails seemed to be a token of appreciation for the participants’ efforts.

Throughout the afternoon, teamwork and collaboration were key. The HA students and staff sweated, laughed and worked hard together, supporting one another and sharing their passion for animal welfare. The HA Community Service Team also extends its heartfelt gratitude to the House of Joy and Mercy, for their generosity to stray animals of all kinds, and for giving the HA this precious opportunity to visit and volunteer.
