Pioneering as the first of its kind among all local tertiary institutions, the Honours Academy (HA) of the Hang Seng University of Hong Kong (HSUHK), established in 2020, officially welcomed the Second Cohort to its three-year interdisciplinary programme, symbolised by the Inauguration Ceremony on 15 October, 2021. Aiming to cultivate future leaders with academic excellence, global vision, and civic leadership, 16 year-two undergraduates from different study programmes underwent a series of competitive selections and, therefore, especially treasured the chance to join the HA family, committed to contributing to local and global social developments.
At their Inauguration Ceremony, the HA’s second cohort first received blessings from Dr Moses Cheng, Council Chairman of the HSUHK and Prof Simon Ho, President of our University, together with a whole audience of the University’s senior management, and academic and administrative staff.
With the words of wisdom delivered by Dr Moses Cheng, the 16 second-cohort HA students Ceremony were all inspired to embark on their “journey of a thousand miles initiated with the first step”, thanks to Dr Moses Cheng’s words of encouragement, built upon the ancient Chinese philosopher Lao Tzu’s famous saying.
Prof Ho, our University President, then provided the HA students with concrete suggestions on taking the first and the many steps that follow, such as engaging themselves in research and journal-article writing, following the footsteps of the HA’s first cohort.
The Inauguration Ceremony this time, themed upon “Inheritance”, acquired its significance through a series of new initiatives, on-stage and off-stage. First, before the Ceremony, six HA students from the first cohort, namely Lauren Lin, Stella Yap, Icy Leung, Isaac Li, Alison Cheng, and Gianni Ting, showcased the amazing achievements of their first-year HA journey through four pull-up banner displays, with the themes of “Experiential Learning”, “Academic Achievements”, “Bonding and Identity”, and “Professional Engagement”.
The Ceremony was then unveiled by a piano recital by Christy Ng, also from the first cohort. The theme of “Inheritance” was further highlighted with a professionally-produced video clip featuring the first cohort’s heartfelt sharing, directed and produced by Tommy Fong also from the first cohort. The audience then witnessed the pass-on ritual of the HA polo shirt, signed by every single first-cohort student, to the second cohort.
The HA’s Academic Fellows, represented by our University’s School Deans and Associate School Deans, also sent along their most sincere wishes, through a framed world map and an encyclopedia, signifying the global vision and the academic excellence that the second-cohort students are expected to showcase in the near future.
The HA would not have been enjoying this much success without the support from the Professional Fellows. On top of the newly-joined Dr Allan Zemen (Chairman, Lan Kwai Fong Group), and Mr Clement Cheung (Chief Executive Officer, Insurance Authority), Ms Wendy Yuen (Head, Retail Distribution, Hang Seng Bank) reminded both the first and the second cohorts to take any initiative and seize every opportunity in the sharing session facilitate by Prof Fu, together with her mentees from the two cohorts, Ray Chan and Irene Luk. The Inauguration Ceremony reached its one last climax with another piano recital, this time by Tom Tang from the first cohort.
Receiving their HA pin from the HA Head, Prof Jeanne Fu, and the two Associate Heads, Dr Holly Chung and Ms Esther Lee, the 16 HA students are all geared up to hone their various skills and contribute to society and the world as a whole, as a global citizen and an aspiring leader.
作為本地大專院校第一所榮譽學院，於2020年成立的香港恒生大學榮譽學院正式迎來第二屆學員，並於2021年10月15日舉行第二屆學員啟動禮，標誌着新一屆學員將展開他們三年跨學科的學習課程。16位來自不同學系的二年級本科生經過嚴格選拔加入榮譽學院，並在啟動禮中承諾珍惜榮譽學院給予的機會，成為出色學術表現、關懷本地及世界群體、擁有國際視野及對社會有承擔的未來領袖為目標，在未來為本地及全球發展貢獻。
在啟動禮中，第二屆學員獲恒大校務委員會主席鄭慕智博士、何順文校長，以及一眾恒大高級管理層、學術和行政人員的祝福和支持。鄭慕智博士於典禮上引用老子的智理名言:「千里之行，始於足下」,勉勵學員勇於跳出舒適圈，珍惜機會。何順文校長亦勉勵新學員既跟隨前人步伐, 亦開展個人領域，例如鼓勵他們像榮譽學院第一屆學員參與學術研究和論文寫作。
本年度的典禮更以不同儀式展現主題 -「承傳」。在典禮開始前，六位第一屆學員（包括林雯佳、叶淑琳、梁冰誼、李昊昕、鄭欣樂、丁婥姸學員）透過以「體驗式學習」、「學術成就」、「聯繫與團結」、「探索專業領域」為題的展板，向來賓展示在榮譽學院第一年精彩旅程。隨後，第一屆學員吳思穎以優美琴聲為典禮掀開敘幕，「承傳」主題更因由方顥庭學員專業地製作第一屆學員感人的回顧短片而昇華。來賓亦見證第二屆學員接過充滿着第一屆學員對他們的祝福簽名，可見兩屆學員之間的友愛。
各學術學院院長和副院長亦代表整體榮譽學院的學術院使，向新一屆學員贈送世界地圖和百科全書，以示對第二屆學員在未來具備國際視野和卓越學術能力的期望。除學術院使外，專業院使對榮譽學院也同樣重要。新加入的院使蘭桂坊集團主席盛智文博士，及保險業監管局行政總監張雲正先生亦出席支持榮譽學院。繼續支持榮譽學院的專業院使﹑恒生銀行分行網絡業務主管袁妙齡女士亦在與她的兩位學員（第一屆的陳子俊和第二屆的陸婉琳學員）的分享過程中，提點學員要主動把握每個學習機會。接著由第一屆學員鄧嘉豪以激昂的鋼琴表演帶起典禮最後的高潮。
十六位第二屆學員獲榮譽學院院長符可瑩教授、副院長鍾可盈博士和李德芬女士頒授榮譽學院徽章，以示他們已有充足準備透過榮譽學院的培訓強化不同技能、成為具領袖能力的國際公民，為社會建設出力。
