HA Seminar – The ABCDEFs of Success: HA’s Exclusive Visit to Ogilvy, the leading integrated creative network with capabilities in PR, advertising, experience, health and consulting

The year of 2024 could not have started on a more inspiring note for the aspiring global citizens at the Honours Academy (HA)! The Ogilvy Hong Kong office, a hub where creativity meets strategy, was the site of our HA Seminar 4 that will undoubtedly shape the professional paths of our Honours Academy (HA) students. On 9 January 2024, Ms. Clara Shek, President of Ogilvy Public Relations & Influence, Hong Kong and also one of HA’s Professional Fellows, welcomed HA’s future leaders, igniting a conversation that extended well beyond the traditional boundaries of Public Relations (PR). It was not just a company visit; it was a masterclass led by the industry titan walking us through the evolving landscape of integrated communications.

Sharing words of wisdom throughout the whole seminar, Clara generously shared with our HA students the six qualities that her firm, together with the whole PR industry, is seeking in the architects of the future of PR, encapsulated by the acronym ABCDEF: Agility to adapt to the ever-changing market, Boldness to push boundaries, Curiosity to explore the unknown, Determination to overcome challenges, an Entrepreneurial spirit to innovate, and a Free-spirited approach to foster creativity.

Clara also presented many PR campaigns, both local and international, showing how her firm resonates with communities by staying abreast of contemporary trends. The message was clear: to make a mark, one must weave the local fabric into the narrative and present it with a flair that captivates the prevailing mood and spirit of the community.

Adding depth to the seminar, Clara introduced two young colleagues with unconventional backgrounds—one from fashion design and the other from media and communications. It was a thoughtful gesture by Clara to exemplify her advice to our HA students: do not be constrained by one’s academic discipline. Instead, the youth these days should forge a strategic plan that aligns with your passions and strengths, and the PR world will be your oyster.

The seminar also featured a company visit where our HA students found themselves in a space adorned with fruits of the firm’s success: bold campaigns and creative ventures. The free flow of ideas in open space and collaborative discussions over coffee all helped to embody Clara’s management mantra: work hard, play harder. It is a workplace environment that does not just produce results but also fosters happiness and creativity.

This HA seminar was not just a window into the world of PR but also a mirror for the students to reflect on their limitless potential. Clara’s ABCDEFs of industry success, coupled with her team’s inspiring narratives, have left an indelible mark on our HA students. They left with a new understanding of what a career in PR could look like, one where fun and function coexist, and so do world-class campaigns and personal fulfillment.
